Is there a website where I can read book reviews before reading books?

I know there are movie review websites, such as tribute.ca and rotten tomatoes. Are there any websites similar to these but for books?

Here are some book review sites:

http://www.booklore.co.uk
http://www.tcm-ca.com
http://www.midwestbookreview.com
http://www.bookreview.com
http://www.librarything.com
http://www.shelfari.com

and, last but not least…

But the best place to read reviews, especially by people like us, is Amazon.com, even if you’re not buying it from there.
