How many #1 New York Times Best Selling authors/Best Sellers are there?

For ex, when i got to B&N, Pretty much every book has "#1 New York Times Best Selling Author" or "#1 New York Times Best Seller"

I just don’t get it

This ranking and the book is on a weekly basis, I think the method is stupid but it gives the authors a huge morale/publicity book by doing it.
They also seperate it into fiction/non-fiction, and sometimes into other categories, I.E. Foreign, comedy, action ~ It depends on the week/month they’re publishing. Typically it’s only fiction, and non-fiction.

The method they use to tally who wins is a ‘trade shop secret’ as the News Surveys department announces. But that is why you see so many of those stickers everywhere. Hope this helped.

  2. There is no single New York Times best-seller list. There are several, such as Hardcover Fiction, Hardcover Nonfiction, Trade Paperbacks,
    Mass-Market Paperbacks, Children’s Picture Books, Children’s
    Chapter Books, Self-Help, etc.

With so many different lists, it’s easy to see why there are so many
    New York Times best sellers.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a Sunday "Times".
