Are hyper-emotional romance books and movies to women what porn is to men?

There are numerous hyper-emotional romance books and films out there. They all follow the same basic plot line. Boy meets girl. There is some social or economic difference between boy and girl. At first, this makes things exciting. Then, intervening friends or family members of one side or both cause the relationship to sour. At this point, a number of things can happen, but often, one of them dies or is permanently separated from the love of their life.

The end.

Well, some of those books are literally porn. They have explicit sex scenes that are meant to be masturbation aids.

If the book doesn’t literally contain porn, I’d say it’s more analogous to stupid action movies than to porn. It’s simple wish-fulfillment that appeals to that little spot inside you that’s secretly not modern or feminist at all and wants to play out a raging gender cliche.

Yes, it is. But I don’t like ‘em if they don’t have a happy ending.

EDIT: @ Glinda LOL! I have a book by Karen Marie Moning xD
She does her last name justice ;)

  4. What you’re describing are tame, Avon type books.

Now, if you go into the romance section, the hottest thing selling these days is the erotic romances. Some are paranormal erotics (vampires. etc) but they are extremely explicit. JR Ward is one of my fav authors, Karen Marie Moning (hottest sex scenes ever). They are basically porn for women but they have a real plot and plenty of sizzle.

  5. No, I would say porn is to women as porn is to men :-P If a woman wants to get off I would say she’s more likely to look at porn or erotic literature. Perhaps they are porn to a woman’s emotional side but not physical porn to get her off.

TBH I think romance films are to women as action films are to men.

I do agree romance books and movies are just pants.

  6. not really. porn is arousing to (arguably) most, if not all, men. personally, i’m just as bored as you are by that kind of predictable, stereotypical drivel. seems like that’s more of a case-by-case thing than porn is.

I’ve never been the type to get aroused over "hyper-emotional romance books". Books like that are nonstimulating to my senses for some odd reason. Believe it or not I was fully aroused while reading the book "False Memory". I guess the thought or fantasy of having power over another person’s mind causes more of a stimulating or arousal affect for me. I could not believe how aroused I was while reading that book, and it made me question who I was as well as my inner morals and beliefs….it scared me.

  9. i have seen a 16 page sex scene in a "romance" novel. they are women’s porn. 8 page sex scenes are common. you should read a variety to determine what women want / like. it is useful knowledge.
