Any tips on sticking to writing? How do you keep writing without stopping and getting sidetracked?

I love to write and am in the proccess of writing a book, but for some reason I always stop in the middle of a scene and just cant continue. Like getting side tracked. How do I stick to it better?

What is your writing area set up like? Is it next to the computer or are you using a computer? Television within sight?

Turn the place you write into an area of little no no access to said distractions. The basement, attic, wash room. Hell even sit in the bathtub and just have at it. That’s what I do.

  1. just be very stuborn! If you feel like stopping, just keep going!

I’ve written three books (unpublished) And at times I’ve just wanted to give them up, but I just kept going.

If I ran out of ideas, I just look at what I did last in the book, and try and see if there’s anything that could lead to another idea.

    Sorry if it doesn’t help

  3. I think each person has to find the thing that works for them. For me I have to treat my writing like a job or school. I write a few pages each day no matter what. Each time I sit down, I re-read a few pages to get the enthusiasm back for the story. I see how good my work is or I find weak spots that I highlight and must edit later. In some cases I do a quick fix edit right then and there. I also take off weekends and vacations just like a real job. I try to keep the amount of projects I’m working on to a particular number. I usually work in five different genres of writing at once. The reason is so that my brain is constantly active and alert.
I also spend a significant amount of time with my family, to remind myself to live in the real world. I do plenty of research on a subject that I’m writing about, for example what other authors have tackled a similar theme, what fun facts can I add to my work, and how can I show my character or myself as knowledgable about the subject. I think arming myself with the information keeps me interested in what I’m writing as well.
I still do plenty of reading as well. I think ideally I just enjoy words so much and learning even more and writing is just a way for me to show the knowledge I’ve gained either in creativity, technique, style, genre etc.
